Frequently Asked Questions

1. Weren't you located in Canby, Oregon? What's all this about Texas?
The business was founded in Canby, OR in 2002 and operated there until our relocation to Stephenville, Texas in spring of 2013. In December of 2017, we moved out of the city limits of Stephenville to our current, permanent production facility in rural Erath county in Texas. Ownership of the business remains the same and we're still making the same great gear.

2. Can I come shop at your store?
No. We do not have a retail store anymore.

2b. Why not?
We purchased a larger manufacturing facility located far outside the city limits of Stephenville, TX. There is not a retail space there. We have chosen to return to the business model that has served us well since 2002: mobile and online only.

3. How fast will my order be shipped?
Orders for in-stock items are processed and shipped within 24-48 hours (excluding Saturdays and Sundays) after they are placed. Orders shipping within the United States are shipped by USPS Priority Mail with insurance and tracking (delivers in 2-3 days nationwide). International orders are shipped by USPS International Priority Mail with insurance and tracking (delivers in 6-10 business days worldwide, unless the box is delayed in customs).

4. Do you ship internationally?
Yes we do! International orders are shipped via USPS International Priority Mail with insurance and tracking (delivers in 6-10 business days worldwide, unless the box is delayed in customs).

5. What is your return policy?
We accept returns on brand new, unused items WITH ORIGINAL TAGS STILL ATTACHED TO THE ITEM within 14 days after purchase. Contact us for a Return Authorization (RA) number and our return shipping address (it is different than the address on the shipping label on the package you received). Returns sent without a Return Authorization number clearly written on the outside of the package will be refused. We highly recommend you purchase insurance through your shipper for the item you are returning/exchanging (we are not responsible for loss or damage of uninsured packages sent to us containing returns/exchanges). We can only accept returns on orders placed through the website. Special orders, customized items, orders placed over the phone or via email/message are NOT eligible for return or exchange.

Our merchandise is inspected for defects when it's finished and again when packaged for shipping. If we missed something and your order contains a defect, please contact us so we can make it right..

6. Do you take special or custom orders?
Not exactly. We are a manufacturer, not really a custom shop. We are limited to changing colors and hides on the designs we already offer.

7. Do I have to place my order online?
We know that not everyone is comfortable placing orders online, so we can take your order and information over the phone at 254-918-2420.

8. Can I pay by check or money order?
No. We no longer accept checks or money orders from individuals. We will accept checks from organizations or associations paying for large award orders, but the check will be held for at least 14 business days before the award order is considered finalized/placed.

9. Do you charge sales tax on internet orders?
Orders shipped within the state of Texas are subject to sales tax.

10. Do you sell wholesale?
No, we do not wholesale. We are retail only.

11. Do you take trades? How about consignments?
We do not accept trades of any kind, including chickens. We do not sell items on consignment.

12. Do you sell your leather, blanks or supplies? Or can you tell me where you get it?
We sell finished products only, which are not suitable for further tooling, painting, etc. We do not sell blanks, leather, scraps or supplies. We purchase our supplies from wholesale vendors that do not sell to the general public.

About Running Roan Tack
Running Roan Tack was founded on September 9, 2002 in Canby, Oregon by a young college student named Heather Zielinski. The business was named after Heather's barrel horse, a fiesty red roan mare named "Myra". Sadly, Myra has gone on to greener pastures, but she remains the namesake of the company.

In spring of 2013, the entire business was relocated to a larger facility in the Cowboy Capital Of The World: STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS. In 2017, we purchased and relocated to an even larger facility in rural Erath county, just outside of Stephenville. Heather Zielinski retains ownership of the business, we still build the same great products and we're PROUD to call the Lone Star State our HOME!

Keeping with her progressive attitude regarding life and horsemanship, Heather views the business as a continual work in progress. Running Roan Tack is proof that dedication, hard work, and an unremitting devotion to a dream really is worth it.

About The Products We Build
Introduction: From the ground up
When you're dealing with horses or tack, foundation is everything. This is why we build all our Running Roan Tack brand products from scratch. Each part of the process takes place on site at our shop in Stephenville, Texas, so we have full control over every detail.
The hides
Our products are built with premium Hermann Oak leather. Since 1881 the Hermann Oak Leather Company of St. Louis, Missouri has earned a repuation for producing the finest leather in the United States. They start with salt-cured hides of steers (no heifers or cows) that were raised and processed in the United States (no imported hides). They use the centuries old technique of vegetable tanning, using "tanin" derived from tree bark to preserve and tan the cowhides. The process of vegetable tanning produces a smooth leather hide that is soft, strong and durable.

Our fancy leathers, such as the hair on cowhides and the embossed leathers, are imported. All of our hair on cowhides come from Brazil or Argentina, where they have perfected the process of chrome tanning to produce hair on hides that won't crack or shed hair. The fancy embossed hides we use are produced in Italy, where they are masters at turning hides into beautiful and durable works of art.

The process
We cut parts out of those beautiful Hermann Oak leather sides using our own leather cutting dies that we have custom designed. We do not use any pre-made dies, we thoughtfully design each and every piece of the items that bear our name.

After cutting, the parts are prepared as needed and sewn. Then the edges are burnished by hand and properly dressed.

And now the finishing touches! The metal dots we use to embellish our products have extra long legs and we attach them securely with a specially designed dot setting machine. We use stainless steel hardware whenever possible. We use only genuine Swarovski crystals for maximum sparkle and shine. And we cut the threads on many of our conchos to help the screws sink deeper into the posts for security.

The finished product The result of all that hard work and attention to detail is a beautiful, functional and durable piece of gear that will perform as good as it looks
